Sawdust Poster

JUSTIFICATION

Before creating the poster for The Sawdust Festival I made sure to read the art director and client comments. As well was putting into consideration their notes, I explored the festival's website to get a better understand as to what the festival had to offer. Although the description and the main heading were both already provided in the resource files on the Adobe CD, I had the freedom to be creative in all other aspects of the poster, as long as it fit the similar guidelines as the Jazzfest poster.

With all of these notions in mind, I chose red as the color for the background. On the website the 'Sawdust' was in red, which gave me the primary inspiration for this. When I had to pick an image for the background, I decided a sunset would be perfect. The festival takes place in the town of Laguna Beach, which is right along the water in California. The picture I chose has the sun setting, also embracing the red color, and a relaxed look, which I hoped would enhance the festival's calm and inviting atmosphere. For the center, main image I decided on a paint can and a paintbrush and then placed multiple colored paint cans with the image. The paint can and paintbrush were used as the center image because I felt they convey the idea of an art festival most simply. I also thought the multiple colors that were placed within the paint can could be symbolic of the many diverse forms of art at The Sawdust Festival.

Overall, I felt the poster met the requirements of the art director and the client, and hopefully can bring success to The Sawdust Festival in the summer.
